#TheHartofChristmas - DIY Advent Calendars & Gifts
02:24Good afternoon everyone,
As November draws to a close and December is right around the corner, I can already hear the Christmas Carols and smell the Gingerbread - it's almost Christmas! As the silly season approaches, most of us can feel overwhelmed by the festivities of Christmas, and sometimes don't even know where to start! Because I can't help but feel the Christmas spirit this year, I've decided to do a four part series in the lead up to the big day. Part 1 is going up a little bit before December because I'm showing you guys how to create some super easy DIY Advent Calendars & Gifts.
I personally love advent calendars - they were one of my favourite parts of Christmas when I was little. There's nothing more exciting than opening up the little doors everyday and receiving presents/chocolate. I drew inspiration for these particular advent calendars from one of my favourite YouTubers Fleur De Force, who did a similar type of thing for Christmas last year. I also thought that if you may not have enough wrapping paper rolls to do 12 days or 24 days, they would also be the perfect gift for someone to hang on their tree until Christmas so I've shown you how I did that as well. Not only are they absolutely adorable, but they're so easy to make and are perfect for the busy mum's out there who need something to occupy their kids with! So without further ado, let's get into the "tutorial."
What you'll need:
- Wrapping paper rolls (I used 4 rolls cut into three)
- Some kind of twine (To string up the calendar)
- Sticky tape (I have plain, and decorative)
- Scissors
- A ruler
- Coloured markers
- Number stickers
- Treats (To fill the advent calendar with)
- Any kind of decorations you like
Method:
Step 1: Start by pushing down the cardboard rolls flat with your hands like so:
Step 2: Measure the cardboard roll into your preferred size (My rolls were 50cm long, so I measured roughly 16.6cm per pouch)
Step 3. Push down the end of the cardboard to form the bottom of the pouch as shown in the photos
Step 4: Fill the pouches with whatever goodies you want - I used candy canes and other types of chocolate but you could use anything from little toys to makeup - have fun with it!
Step 5: Decorate as you wish, this is the part of the DIY where you can be as creative as you want!
Step 6: Thread them with the twine and hang them wherever you wish, and you're all ready to go!
I've also modified the steps a little bit so that if you don't have time to decorate all 12, you can give them to people as gifts to hang on their Christmas tree to open on Christmas day. It's such an easy way to show that you put a little bit more effort into presents rather than buying them.
That's about all for today everyone but I hope this gave you some inspiration, and got you into the Christmas spirit a little bit more! If you decide to recreate this, let me know on either Twitter, or Instagram (both are @hartofwriting) and use the hashtag #TheHartofChristmas.
See if you can guess what the other parts of this series could be in the comments below,
And until next time,
Gina xx
