Review- The Maze Runner Series

22:09

It's Gina here!

Another week, another blog post my friends. Sorry for the late update but I have just finished re-reading my latest obsession- the Maze Runner Series. I cannot even begin to explain the impact that this series has had on me (in the best way obviously). Aside from a lack of sleep, I feel enlightened and thankful to live in the world we live in today.

The Maze Runner Series consists of four books- the trilogy of "The Maze Runner," "The Scorch Trials," and "The Death Cure,"- and a prequel, known as "The Kill Order." Without giving away too many spoilers, the series takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian science fiction universe in the near future. Thomas, the main character, arrives in a place known as the Glade, with no memories other than his real name. Surrounding the Glade is a giant maze, which changes shape every night. Together Thomas and the other boys trapped in the Glade (known as "Gladers") must figure out a way to escape this stone prison, but avoid the hideous beasts known as Grievers.

If that doesn't leave you searching for answers, I don't what will. I'll admit that I found the first book a little difficult to get into; it seems that James Dashner may have had a general idea of the story line but took a while to set up the initial scene. However, keep reading regardless because I promise you, you have no idea what is about to come and it is 110% worth it. The first time I read this series, it took me about a month to read the first book, and while some of you may think that this is a long time, I read the second and third books in two consecutive days. It is an unbelievably good read and it has my highest recommendation. It is gripping, and thrilling- everything a great dystopian book should be. It sucked me in and spat me out and I have no regrets; neither will you.

It has been complemented by a movie franchise of the same name, and with The Scorch Trials being released in cinemas, it seems only fair to promote this movie on my blog (however, if you don't like gore, maybe this movie isn't for you).

Mr Dashner, if, on the off chance you're reading this- THANK YOU. For the best month and two days of my life.

I look forward to seeing what other books you're publishing in the near future, especially The Fever Code, which I believe is released in 2016? Congratulations on such a successful movie franchise, you've earned it.

Let me know in comments what book(s) you'd like to see me review (gush about) next time,
Until then,
Gina xx
